North American  F-86F-40  Sabre Jet
This Sabre is at the Southern Museum of Flight, Birmingham, AL. It was built up
from parts obtained from the China Lake Naval Weapons Center. The center has a
stock of damaged F-86F-40's returned from Japan under MDAP and then used as
targets. The museum sent three people to China Lake to pick out the least damaged
major assembles. The forward fuselage is from one aircraft; the rear from another;
and the wings from two other aircraft. It is painted in the markings of another F-86F
flown by Korean War Ace Joseph McConnell Jr.. Major Don Hinton, USAF took
these photos and is sharing them with us.
